James F. Alvey, 60, of Sykesville, died Friday May 18, 2012, at Gettysburg Hospital.

Born July 27, 1951, in St. Mary's County, he was the son of James Alvey, of Mechanicsville, and the late Grace S. Long Jewell. He was the husband of the late Wanda M. Dunn Alvey.

He was a veteran of the Army and served in Vietnam. He was a lab worker at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab.

Surviving, in addition to his father, are daughter Tracy Russell and fiance Jeff Cook, both of Littlestown, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Kelly Miley, of Biglerville, Pa.; a stepmother Ruth Alvey, of Mechanicsville; a stepfather Jessie Jewell, of New Hampshire; brothers Roger Alvey, of North Carolina, and Robert Alvey, of New Hampshire; a half-brother, Myron Jewell, of New Hampshire; granddaughters Rachel and Rebecca Russell; and step-grandchildren Seth and Faith Miley.

Services and interment will be private.

Arrangements are by Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Westminster.
