Born Dec. 13, 1920, in Greene, N.Y., he was the son of the late Dr. James Nelson Elliot and Myrtle Jane Robinson. He was the husband of Dorothy Elliot, who died in 2007, his wife of 65 years.

He graduated from Central High School in Syracuse, N.Y., and later enlisted in the New York National Guard Cavalry, where he developed riding and horsemanship skills. During World War II, he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Force as a B24 flight instructor.

After the war, he worked for Crucible Steel, and then LW Singer Company, a text-book publisher. In 1965 he relocated to Westminster, to oversee construction of a new office and warehouse facility for Random House.

The second warehouse expansion was completed when he retired as distribution manager in 1983, having a combined total of 38 years employed by publishing companies.

He and his wife owned numerous horses over their lifetimes, and he took an active interest in the various breeds of dogs that his wife raised as a hobby.

He also enjoyed spending time at camp on Otisco Lake in New York with his family and friends. He enjoyed visiting local restaurants, bowling, playing golf and working on The New York Times crossword puzzles. In recent years he was often seen in the local bingo halls.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and for years served as a lector in his parish.
