James Howard "Buck" Slasman, 101, of Middletown, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at home.

Born near Finksburg, he was the son of the late J. Carroll and Emily Zepp Slasman. He was the husband of Gladys Brittingham Slasman, whom he married Nov. 1, 1934, and who died Oct. 9, 1967.

He was a well-known farmer in the Carroll County area. He enjoyed farming his whole life and often commented how he liked to plant something in the soil and watch it grow.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Zeigler, of Middletown; son Kent Slasman and wife Anne, of Dickerson; grandchildren Jennifer Zeigler and husband Richard Queen, of Wolfsville, and James Zeigler, of Gypsum, Colo.; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by sisters Ruth S. Caple and Elizabeth S. Oursler; and brothers-in-law Lester Z. Caple and George A. Oursler.

Services were private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements were handled by Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home in Middletown.
