James L. Hooper, M.D. passed away on March 24, 2016, after an illness. Dr. Hooper is survived by his wife, Martha Riches Hooper, sons Christopher (Melanie) and Alexander, daughter Jeannine (Tom) and granddaughters Jessica, Julia and Jacquelina. He was predeceased by a son, Douglas, in 1981 and a grandson, James Dunn in 2011. Dr. Hooper is a veteran of the Korean War, where he earned several medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, UN Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Parachute Badge and Combat Infantry Badge. Born on May 24, 1931, in Baltimore, Dr. Hooper was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph, Class of 1948. After enlisting in the Army in August, 1951, he volunteered for duty in Korea with 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team, "The Rakkasans". After military service, he attended University of Maryland and earned a BS and MD degree in 1961 as well as an MPH from Johns Hopkins. Dr. Hooper practiced family medicine in Montgomery County for over 30 years as well as emergency and urgent care medicine until his retirement. An informal graveside gathering will take place at 10:30AM on Tuesday, March 29, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery on Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD. Memorial contributions may be made to CSAAC (Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children), 930 Village Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD or to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157
