James Anthony Sluger, Sr., (Jim) 82, of Taneytown, Md, died on November 9, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family. Born July 15, 1935 in Thomas, WV, he was the son of the late Anton and Evelyn Sluger. He is survived by his wife Beverly, to whom he was married 62 years. Jim was a US Marine, Police Officer in Brownsville, Pa. and in the last 30 years he worked as a Director of Plant Operations for various nursing homes in Maryland, before retiring in 2003. He was a member of the American Legion for 50 years. He enjoyed playing poker with the guys, helping out at the church food bank, his lottery tickets and most of all, spending time with his family. Surviving are daughter Debbie Nevius and husband Mike, of New Windsor, MD; sons James Sluger, Jr and wife Theresa of Mt. Airy, Md., and John Sluger of Taneytown, MD; 10 grandchildren, Justin Nevius and wife Kelly, Jennifer Gallagher and husband Derrick, Joshua, Kaitlyn, Jordan, Courtney, Joseph, Travis and Samantha Sluger, and Brittany Holtz and husband Eric; 4 great-grandchildren Amelia Nevius, Adeline Sluger, Joshua & Colin Holtz; Brother, Dave Sluger. He was predeceased by son Ronald Sluger, brother Jerry Sluger; sister Sondra Sluger, sister-in-law Susan Sluger; brother-in¬laws James W. Richter and Calvin J. Richter. He will be remembered by his many relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at the DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg MD on Monday 11-13-17 2-4, 6-8. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., November 11-14-17 at DeVol Funeral Home with the Rev Patricia Dols officiating. internment will follow at Parklawn Cemetery, 12800 Viers Mill Road, Rockville, MD. The grandchildren will be among the pallbearers to honor their grandfather. Memorial contributions can be made to the William E. Kahiert Regional Cancer Center, 291 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157 or Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
