James "Gene" Eugene Summers (82 yrs old) of Sykesville, MD, formerly of Cumberland and Glen Burnie, MD, passed away peacefully on 1 February 2016 surrounded by his family. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jane Leimbach Summers in 2005, after more than 50 years of marriage. Gene leaves behind the following loving family: Three sons and a daughter, Charles Albert Carter (wife, Sharon) of New Castle, DE, Dale Eugene of Ellicott City, MD, Douglas Allan (and girlfriend, Dawn Adamson) of Finksburg, MD, and Cheryl Womack of Sykesville, MD. He also leaves behind two sisters: Ina Warnick (husband, John) of Ridgely, WV, and Renee Kiddy (husband, Ray) of LaVale, MD. In addition, he leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 8 greatgrandchildren. Gene took great pride and loved working in his flower gardens and yard and feeding and watching the birds. He enjoyed watching Baltimore Ravens football, Baltimore Orioles baseball and Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals hockey. Gene was a member of the LaVale Lions Club and enjoyed volunteering his time with the group. He always looked forward to working the chicken BBQs and taking the late shift. He would also help with the selling of Christmas trees. Viewing will take place at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., located at 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, Maryland on Thursday, 4 February from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A Memorial Service will be conducted by the LaVale Lions Club on Thursday at 6:30 pm at the funeral home. A Funeral Service will take place Friday, 5 February at the funeral home at 10 am with internment service at Rest Lawn Memorial Chapel. Military honors will be accorded by Ft. Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the LaVale Lions Club, P O Box 3235, LaVale, MD 21504-3235. Gene enjoyed taking walks on the mountain with his Bassett Hounds (Cleo #1 and Cleo #2) and picking flowers for Shirley.
