Jane Elizabeth Cater, age 92, of New Windsor, died Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Inspirations Memory Care of Westminster, following a brief illness. Born June 21, 1924 in New Windsor, she was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Beulah Haines Englar. She was the wife of Lyle D. Cater, who predeceased her in 2007. In her early years Mrs. Cater studied piano and voice, and furthered her voice studies at Peabody Conservatory. She also sang in several church choirs. She was a 1941 graduate of New Windsor High School and following graduation was employed with Carroll Gardens and Bohn Pontiac. She was a member of the New Windsor Ladies Auxiliary Drill Team. She moved with her husband to various Army posts and they enjoyed bowling in a mixed 10-pin league. They settled back in New Windsor in 1967 and she worked as a secretary at Francis Scott Key High School and later Elmer Wolfe Elementary School, until her retirement in 1985. She enjoyed helping with various activities in her community, but always stayed available for her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their numerous activities. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, New Windsor and in recent years had been attending Uniontown Bible Church while living with her daughter and family. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Thom Frock of Keymar; stepson, Lawrence Cater and wife, Jacqueline of Reisterstown; grandchildren Evan Frock of Keymar, Connor Frock of New Windsor, Ayrika and Eric Martin of Keymar, Scott and Beth Cater of Baltimore, Denean and Carl Eutsler of Florida; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Martin and Daniel Cater; and two nieces, two nephews and their spouses. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor on Monday, Jan. 23 from 12 to 2 p.m. with the funeral service starting at 2 p.m. Pastor Tim Webster will officiate. Interment will follow in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near New Windsor. Memorial contributions may be made to New Windsor Volunteer Fire Co., P.O.
