Janet M. Metzbower, 81, of Sykesville, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at home.

Born Feb. 1, 1932, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Theresa Miller Franey. She was the wife of Harry Metzbower, her husband of 55 years who died in 2006.

She was a homemaker, an avid reader, she enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles and loved animals and birds. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with family. She was known as a caring person with a big heart and a great sense of humor; and a person of strength and dignity.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Donna and Anthony Lovecchio, Teresa and Larry Harp, and Patricia and Bruce Redmer; sons Glenn Metzbower and fiancee Leah Viera, and James and wife Deborah Metzbower; a sister, Madeline Lucas; brothers Edward and Robert Franey; grandchildren Michael Harp and wife Kim, Ashley and Stephen and Chase Metzbower, Zachary Olwine, Kristian Hall and Ian Viera; and great-granddaughters Madisyn and Morgan Harp.

She was preceded in death by siblings Margaret Carter, Dorothy Casey and William, Charles, Catherine and Dolores Franey.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg. Funeral service and internment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
