Janice Marie Hammed, 88, of Westminster, died Monday, April 21, 2014, at her daughter's home.

Born April 15, 1926, in Bluefield, Va., she was the daughter of the late Author and Catherine McGuire Noel. She was the wife of Sam Hammed Jr., whom she married Aug. 16, 1946, and who died Sept. 21, 2001.

She was a computer program coordinator for 30 years at Westinghouse. She was a member of Hilltop Assembly of God and enjoyed her church family. She liked doing crossword puzzles, reading, shopping, camping and "her girls."

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Deedria and John Schmidt, of Finksburg, Cathy and James Basil, of Westminster, and Athba Hammed, of Baltimore; sisters Judy Barile and Ellen Tibbs; brothers Jack, Jesse and Bill Noel; grandchildren Deeya Eyler, and Sunny Long and husband William, all of Westminster; great-grandchildren Justin and Jordan Eyler and Billie and Kassie Long; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by sisters June Noel, Catherine Gillespie and Linda Rowe.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

Visitation will also be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service, 10 a.m. Saturday at Hilltop Assembly of God Church, 30 N. Cranberry Road, Westminster, with her pastor, the Rev. Gary "Pete" Puckett, officiating. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Hilltop Assembly of God, 30 N. Cranberry Road, Westminster, MD 21157.
