Jeanne Monroe Hammond, 87, of Glyndon, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at home.

Born Sept. 13, 1924, in Glyndon, she was the daughter of the late Vera Monroe Wales and Ira LeRoy Wales IV. She was the wife of Charles Louis Hammond Jr., her husband of 61 years, who died in 2008.

She was a 1941 graduate of Franklin School and was employed for the U.S.F. & G, Baltimore Gas and Electric, and Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company.

She did volunteer work at the Reisterstown Community Crisis Center for more than 12 years, and Mission of Mercy. She was a member of Glyndon United Methodist Church, Franklin Garden Club, Historic Glyndon and Glyndon Community Association. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed opera, flowers and gardening.

Surviving are sons and daughter-in-law James Hammond and Carol Dickinson, of Westminster, and Roy Hammond of Glyndon; daughter and son-in-law Joyce Patten and Steve Patten, of Davidsonville; grandsons Ryan Patten, of Miamisburg, Ohio, and Jason Patten, of Davidsonville.

She was predeceased by a brother, Ira Wales V; a sister, V.V. Palen; and two step-grandsons, Daniel and Steven Schaeffer.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, with the Rev. Dr. Clarence Roark officiating. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Glyndon United Methodist Church, 4713 Butler Road, Glyndon, MD 21071.
