Jeffrey Allen Burgess, 58, of Columbia, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 23, 2013, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster. 

Born Sept. 10, 1955, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, he was the son of Beulah A. Burgess Luby, of Germantown, and the late Charles E. Luby Sr.

He had attended South Carroll High School, where he enjoyed running track. He had worked various jobs throughout his life, mostly domestic or maintenance jobs.

He was known to be a caring person who was liked by those who knew him.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are siblings and spouses Theresa and Bruce Dawson, and John and Michelle Luby, all of Germantown, Charles E. Luby Jr., of New Windsor, Stanford Luby, and Wayne and Kathy Luby, all of Westminster; long-time companion, Shirley Smith, of Columbia; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was predeceased by a sister, Sylvia Smith.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service, noon Monday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, with the Rev. Ernest Thomas officiating. Interment will be private.
