Jennings Leroy "Muggs" Spencer, 78, of Westminster, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born Aug. 24, 1934, in Reese, he was the son of the late Naomi Grace Caple Spencer and Irving Shellman Spencer. He was the husband of Edith Lea Spencer, who died in 2008.

Before retiring he worked at Black & Decker as an inspector for 34 years. He was a life member of the Reese and community volunteer fire company. He served on the board of directors and was a member of Sandymount United Methodist Church, served in the Army, and was an avid Orioles and Ravens fan.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Steven and Joanna Spencer, of Westminster; daughter and son-in-law Vicki and Steve Ensor, of Westminster; sisters Fern Talley, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Patsy Keeney, of Taneytown; grandchildren Carly Ensor, of Westminster, and Nicholas Riegel, of Bendersville, Pa.; a great-granddaughter, Adalyn Wahman, of Westminster; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by sisters Betty Jane Spencer and Alice Bartee; and brothers Robert and Frank Spencer.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, where Reese and community volunteer fire company will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. William Boyer officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.
