Jesse David Myers Jr., 88, of Frederick, died Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Homewood at Crumland Farms, following a prolonged illness.

Born Sept. 6, 1924, in Westminster, he was the son of the late Jesse and Elizabeth Myers. He was the husband of Irma Irene Myers, his wife of almost 61 years.

He was a 1949 graduate of Western Maryland College, with a degree in biology. He served briefly in the Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he worked as a bacteriologist for the Maryland State Department of Health until his retirement in 1989.

He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Frederick, where he enjoyed singing in the gospel choir for many years. He enjoyed classical music, gardening, big breakfasts, and spending time with his family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter Susan Myers Harbold and husband John, of Westminster; son David Myers and wife Dawn, of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; grandchildren Rebecca Jacques and husband Jovani, Laura DeStefano and husband Anthony, Jesse Myers and wife Diana, Michael Myers and wife Katy, William Harbold, Daniel Myers, Emilie Myers, and Bradley Myers; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Howard Myers, of Westminster.

He was predeceased by a sister, Madeline Myers Hiatt.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick; and from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service, 11 a.m. Friday at Deer Park United Methodist Church, 2205 Sykesville Road, Westminster, with Harry C. Cole officiating. Interment will follow in the Deer Park Cemetery immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 W. 2nd St., Frederick, MD 21701.
