Joan C. Sipes, 72, of Sykesville, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at home after a two year battle with ovarian cancer.

Born June 2, 1941, in Finksburg, she was the daughter of the late George and Ann Hollingsworth Parry. She was the wife Walter W. Sipes, her husband of 47 years.

She had lived in the Finksburg or Sykesville areas most of her life. She had a beauty shop in her home for many years and most recently, with her husband, managed a horse boarding facility.

She was a member of Morgan Chapel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed pets and over her lifetime had especially enjoyed many horses and dogs.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are son and daughter-in-law Bill and Theresa Sipes, of Westminster; step-daughter and spouse Marcie and Richard Lamm, of Owings Mills; sister and brother-in-law Nancy Ann and George Horvath, of Sykesville; brother and sisters-in-law Jesse and Janice Parry, and Debra Parry, all of Westminster; grandchildren and spouses John and Michelle Hutchins, of Louisville, K.Y., Heather and Marty Golden, of Mount Airy, and Brittney Sipes and Brady Sipes, both of Westminster; a great-granddaughter, Kayliegh Elizabeth Golden; several nephews; and a niece.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Art Monroe Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Fallston Animal Rescue, 2725 Fallston Road, Fallston, MD 21047.
