Joan Ellen Slick, 85, of Gamber passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Lorien of Taneytown. She was born on October 18, 1930 in Baltimore and was the daughter of the late Thomas M. and Airy G. (nee Barnes) Flater. She was the loving wife of the late John D. Slick who predeceased her on February 6, 2006. Joan was a graduate of Westminster Senior High School class of 1948 and was a homemaker. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, going for walks and spending time with her family. She was a long-time member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Surviving her are daughters and sons-in-law Dawn C. and Brad Rowland of Fairfield, CA, and Nancy R. Slick and Jim Lutz of Manchester; grandsons Shawn Ward of Sacramento, CA and Matthew Rowland of Fairfield, CA and great-granddaughter Blakely Ward of Seattle, WA. She was the last of 10 children and was predeceased by sisters Hazel Green, Violet Steck and Airy Stansfield and brothers Louis, Noel, Cassen "Reds", Harvey, Jack and Thomas Flater. A Memorial Services will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church, 3939 Gamber Rd, Finksburg, on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Martin Brooks officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the start of the service at church. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Calvary United Methodist Church, Carroll Hospice or the .
