Joan Swain Shockley, 86, of Union Bridge and formerly of Lincoln, DE, died Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Shepherd's Glen Assisted Living, near Union Bridge. Born Jan. 20, 1929 in Milford, DE, she was the daughter of the late George Harvey and Iris Ireland Swain. She was the wife of the late Harvey Preston Shockley, who died in 2008. Mrs. Shockley was a graduate of Milford High School. She was formerly employed as an executive secretary with Caulk/Dentsply International in Milford, retiring in 1994. She was a member of Lincoln United Methodist Church. Before her husband's death, they enjoyed spending winters in Bonita Springs, FL. Mrs. Shockley also enjoyed reading, playing cards and spending time with her precious granddaughter, Heather. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Daniel H. and Vickie Shockley of Union Bridge; and granddaughter, Heather Shockley. She was predeceased by a brother, George Walter Swain. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Lincoln Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The , Central MD Chapter, 1850 York Rd., Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093-3142.
