John A. Horrell, 89, of Finksburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson.

Born June 15, 1923, in Apollo, Pa., he was the son of the late John T. and Goldie Ridenour Horrell. He was the husband of the late Clara Cochran Horrell.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre. He worked in the maintenance department at Carroll County Hospital. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are children Coleene Novak, of Indiana, and Gordon Horrell and wife Diane, of Finksburg; a daughter-in-law, Karen Horrell, of Hanover, Pa.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by a son, "Johnny" R. Horrell.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster; and from 10 a.m. until the time of service, 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 3200 Ridge Road, Westminster, with the Rev. Tim Leaman officiating. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Park in Sykesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Calvary Baptist Church, 3200 Ridge Road, Westminster, MD 21157.
