John Bruce Wood Sr., age 99 of Westminster, died Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Carroll Hospice Dove House. Born July 11, 1917 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late David Francis and Marguerite Ellen Canaga Wood. He was the husband of the late Betty Jane Wood who died in 2009. He was a WWII veteran and retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel. He had been a mechanical engineer and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh and his graduate degree from University of Illinois. His interests included square and round dancing, classical music, choral singing and Civil War history. Surviving are son John B. Wood Jr. of Arlington, VA, daughter and son-in-law Susan and Richard Podobnik of Eldersburg, brother and sister-in-law Robert T. and Beverly Wood of St. Petersburg, FL, grandchildren Andrea Michael and her husband Greg of Marriottsville, Rebecca Russell and her husband Keith of Eldersburg, and Lindsay Holbig and her husband Justin of Glen Burnie, and great grandchildren Connor and Kennedy Michael, Camden Russell, and Brenna Holbig. He was predeceased by his brother, Russell Wood. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 12, 2017 from 2-5pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Carroll Lutheran Village Krug Chapel, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster. The family will receive friends at the chapel on Monday from 10am until the time of services. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Service Organizations (USO), Inc., P.O.
