John C. Werner, 70, of Manchester, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at the Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster.

Born March 12, 1942, in Baltimore County, he was the son of the late John Carroll Werner and Margaret Plumhoff Werner. He was the husband of Grace Ann Baker Werner, his wife of nearly 50 years.

He was a 25-year veteran of the Baltimore County Police Department and retired with the rank of Detective Sgt. He then worked for the Seminole County, Fla., Sheriff's Department as a field service officer for 17 years. He was also a member of the Florida Masonic Lodge in Oviedo, Fla.

Surviving, in addition to his wife are son Scott Werner of Apopka, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Barbara Werner, of Hampstead; brothers William Werner, of Abingdon, Glenn Werner, of Rosedale, and Joseph Werner, of Parkville. He was grandfather to his special pals, Liam and Sean Werner, of Hampstead.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Dr., Manchester, with the Rev. David Bare officiating. Interment will be private.
