Woodsboro MD-John Daniel Hubbard Sr.,85, known as Barber Dan to many, died on Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. Born in Newport News Virginia on June 28, 1931, Dan was eldest son of Linwood and Hallie Hubbard. As a young man, Dan served in the United States Air Force. Dan met his wife, Doris, at church and they were married in 1950. Dan and Doris were married for 66 years. Dan opened his Barber Shop in Woodsboro on July 4, 1956. He has enjoyed over 60 years as a Barber. The shop was known as a place to share stories, laughter, and advice, while getting a great hair cut. Dan was not only a Barber but a close friend to many of his customers. He has passed down tradition of barbering to his oldest daughter and one of his granddaughters. In addition to his work as a Barber, Dan was also a Gospel DJ for 10 years at WTHU in Thurmont, MD. He had a love for gospel music and enjoyed talking to callers every Sunday morning. Dan often told his listeners to get ready for "foot pattin and hand clappin music comin your way" and to "get your coffee pot ready, pull your rocking chair up". Throughout his life, Dan was a member of many organizations and clubs. Some of these included; National Rifle Association, Knights Templar, Life Member of the Gideon's, member of Sons of American Legion Glen W. Eyler, Associate Member of Fraternal order of Police Lodge number 91, Woodsboro Fire Company for many years, 32nd Degree Mason Scottish and York Rite, Keystone Cop, Lewistown Ruritan, Walkersville Kiwanis Club, Shriners, and Permanent Contributing Member of Ali Ghan Temple Dan was a member of two Barber shop chorus, the Frederick Catoctones and Old Line Statements in Westminster. He was also a member of St. Timothy's Roman Catholic Church in Walkersville. As a member, Dan enjoyed making dishes and desserts for dinners and special events at the church. He proudly served as an usher at the 8 AM mass on Sunday mornings. He is survived by his 6 children, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and many close friends and loyal customers. Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Hubbard, his granddaughter Tara Hubbard and her husband, DJ Oliver A burial mass will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 10 AM at St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Walkersville, a gathering will follow in the Parish Hall. Friends are also welcomed for a meal to celebrate Dan's life on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 6 PM at the Woodsboro American Legion.
