John Edward Barrett, Jr., 71, of Sykesville, died unexpectedly at home on Sunday, August 31, 2014. Born February 3, 1943 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John E. Barrett, Sr. and Margaret F. (Crue) Barrett. He was a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. He retired from the United Stated Post Office after 33 years of service. He was an avid trap shooter and was a member of various local firing ranges. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his great-grandson who he referred to as "Typhoon." Surviving are daughter Lynn Frock of Abbottstown, PA; grandchildren Robert Frock of Westminster and Jessica Frock of Hanover, PA and great-grandson Wesley Robertson also of Hanover. He was predeceased by his brother, Donald L. Barrett. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the PRITTS FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. Funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Deacon Charles Barnhart, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Poplar Grove Cemetery in Phoenix. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311 or at www.diabetes.org.

I'm still hoping that I will wake up from this nightmare and see you sitting on the couch in your"spot" when I come down on Sunday, but in reality you are gone. I miss you & love you so very much! Your grandchildren, great grandson & I will continue on and make you proud!! I love you dad!!
