John Edward Hobbs, 79, of Emmitsburg passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Westminster. Born March 31, 1937, in Emmitsburg, and son of the late Maurice Henry and Eva Elizabeth (Stouter) Hobbs. John was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked as a machinist for Black & Decker in Hampstead, as well as RH Sheppard Foundry in Hanover, PA until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed gardening and especially loved to dance and travel with his companion, Marguerite. He also liked to listen to talk shows on the radio, and kept busy in his garage working on cars and small engines. He was fond of American Eskimo dogs and loved his dog "Sophie". He is survived by sisters Ann T. Welty of Emmitsburg, Joan E. Little of Thurmont, M. Euphemia Sauble of York, PA, and Ava M. Murray of Lakeland, FL; brothers L. Benjamin Hobbs of Waynesboro, PA, Eugene H. Hobbs of Tacoma, WA, Harry M. Hobbs of Frederick, George G. Hobbs of Sacramento, CA, and Simon P. Hobbs of Emmitsburg; lifetime companion Marguerite Hayden of Westminster; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services and interment are private.
