John Paul Isacson Sr., 81, of Gaithersburg, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville.

Born April 25, 1932, in Neptune, N.J, he was the son of the late Paul and Isabel Isacson. He was the husband of Joanne Formica Isacson, whom he married June 20, 1959.

He was an Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.

He lived in the Washington, D.C., area for 52 years, and was a retired principal for Montgomery County Public Schools.

He received his undergraduate degree in history education from Trenton State College and his master's in administration from Seton Hall University. He also attended University of Maryland College Park for doctorate work.

He was a member of the Maryland Retired School Personnel Association and Disabled American Veterans.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children John Isacson, of McLean, Va.; Christina Isacson Mohlhenrich, of Westminster, and Robert F. Isacson, of Arnold; siblings Evelyn Alaimo and Jim Isacson, both of New Jersey; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Linda Isacson, Russ Alaimo, Frank Formica and Barbara Formica; grandchildren Gus, Krista and Gunnar Mohlhenrich, and Julia, Lizzy, Starr and Robbie Isacson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by father-in-law and mother-in-law Francis and Rose Formica; and a sibling, Betty McGrew.

Interment will be in Gates of Heaven in Rockville.

Arrangements are by Robert A. Pumphrey Funeral Home in Rockville.
