John R. Freas, 73, of Sykesville, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at the Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson.

Born Oct. 20, 1939, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Robert and Eileen E. MacQuiston Freas. He was the husband of Kay Simpson Freas, his wife of 52 years.

He served in the Army in Korea. He was a self-employed manufacturer representative in the commercial stationary industry for 40 years. As a lifetime member of the Randallstown Optimist Club, he coached Pop Warner football for eight years, which included two national championships.

He enjoyed cooking, playing poker and entertaining people, and visiting the South Jersey Shore.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Paul Freas and wife Katie, Richard Freas and wife Carolyn, and Sharon Winkler and husband Brad; grandchildren Alexandra, Wyatt and Eli; and sisters Pati Coyle and Nancy Wilk.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of memorial service, 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church, 961 Johnsville Road, Sykesville, with the Rev. Rick Hill officiating. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Ruth Gosnell Educational Fund or the church memorial fund, both c/o Springfield Presbyterian Church, 7300 Spout Hill Road, Sykesville.

Arrangements are by Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory in Winfield.
