John Raymond Parkent, 76, of Manchester died Thursday, November 12, 2015 at home. John was born on December 29, 1938 in Baltimore, and was the son of the late Adolph C. and Marie Buettner Parkent. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Elizabeth Parkent. John was a graduate of Calvert Hall High School and Johns Hopkins University where he received his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. He started his working career as a surveyor for Baltimore City for 5 years. He then worked at Westinghouse Electric, where he was manager of financial information systems, retiring in 1994 after 32 years of service. During retirement John became a realtor for Long and Foster and was employed for 17 years, and achieved a status of a Million Dollar seller each year. John was a member of St. John Catholic Church. His hobbies included many types of gardening including fruits, vegetables and flowers. He enjoyed fishing in his pond and raising tropical fish. He loved spending time with his family and dogs, and traveling to Disney World. He was the beloved father of Raymond Scott Parkent and his wife Sandy of Oakland, MD, Timothy Allen Parkent and his wife Wendy of Manchester, MD, Kathleen Marie Donohue and her husband Patrick of Littlestown, PA, and April Elizabeth Dunbar and her husband Jeremy of Hanover, PA; grandchildren Zachary Parkent and wife Nina, Brian Parkent, Ashley Parkent, Gabriella Parkent, Holly Donohue, Noah Donohue, Jessica Dunbar, and Madison Dunbar. He was predeceased by brothers Albert Parkent and James Parkent. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster MD 21157. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Humane Society of Carroll County, 2517 Littlestown Pike, Westminster MD 21158 or to St. Johns Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster MD 21157.
