John Charles Stricker, 88, of Sykesville, Maryland and formerly of Edgerton and Beaver Dam Wisconsin, died Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Dove House Hospice, in Westminster, Maryland. Mr. Stricker was born on December 25, 1927 in Edgerton, Wisconsin, son of George and Louise Stricker. He graduated from Edgerton High School and married Mary Stanford in 1950. They raised 2 children and remained married for 66 years, until his death. Mr. Stricker worked for the Edgerton Water Department early in his career, but always wanted his own business. In 1956 an opportunity arose to purchase a liquor store in Beaver Dam Wisconsin. He purchased the business, and the Stricker family moved to Beaver Dam. Mr. Stricker successfully ran the liquor store for 17 years until he sold it. After a short hiatus he opened a furniture stripping and refinishing business and a few years later a retail antique business as well. He continued in these endeavors until he sold the businesses and retired in 1985. After his wife Mary retired as a social worker supervisor for Dodge County, Wisconsin, the couple relocated to Maryland to be closer to family. Throughout his life, his hobbies included fishing, hunting, gardening, wood working and watching the Green Bay Packers. In addition to his work career, Mr. Stricker also served as a sergeant in the United States Army both in World War II (Aleutian Islands) and Korea, serving with the 453rd Engineers. Survivors include his wife Mary and son Dennis Stricker, both of Sykesville, daughter Patricia and son-in-law David Jeanmaire of Williamsburg, Virginia, sister-in-law Sharon and brother-in-law Gerald Schwartzlow of Williamsburg, Virginia, two grandsons, Mark and Eric, and a niece Sara and nephew Chad. A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 15, 2016 at the Fassett Cemetery in Edgerton, Wisconsin. Online condolences may be offered at www.haightfuneralhome.com
