John William Rafferty, 81, of Westminster, died Saturday, April 4, 2015 at his residence. Born on July 26, 1933 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John W. Rafferty and Lelia M. Cord Cumberland. He was the step-son of the late Charles Cumberland. He was the husband of Elaine Rafferty to whom he was married to for 55 years. He was a veteran of the United States Marines serving form 1953 to 1957. He had worked as an oil burner service mechanic with C. Hoffberger Company for 38 years. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus 3960, and St. Vincent de Paul Society at St John. He enjoyed bluegrass music, playing the banjo and guitar, he had model train garden in his home, he enjoyed golfing, he especially loved his 1992 Ford F150 truck, and spending time with his loving family. Surviving in addition to his wife are son and daughter-in-law John Michael and Donna Rafferty of Taneytown; daughters and sons-in-laws Karen and Mark Topolski of Westminster and Suzanne and Michael Cameron of Rosedale; sisters Lelia Margaret Evans of Randallstown and Janet Manning of Owings Mills; grandchildren Adam Christopher Topolski, Shane Andrew Rafferty, Brett William Topolski, Kasee Marion Cameron, Heather Lynn Rafferty, and Olivia Loree Cameron; great grandaughter Makena Brynn Topolski; and several loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 13, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, April 14, at 12:30 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster. Interment with military honors will be at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, MD 21157 or to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
