Joseph F. Burkhardt passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Born August 26, 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1946. He was a drum major in the St. James Drum and Bugle Corps and a bugler in the Hamilton Yankee Rebel Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a Baltimore Colts fan and season ticket holder. He was an avid gentleman farmer and enjoyed spending time on his farm and growing asparagus. He was active at the South Carroll Senior Center and loved being in the limelight as a member of the comedy club. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Dorothy ("Fluffy") Wyatt Burkhardt. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Fran Starlings and husband Herb, Terri Unglesbee and husband Larry, Joe Burkhardt, Jr., Greg Burkhardt and wife Kelly; brother Ben Burkhardt; grandchildren Daren Starlings and wife Jen, David Unglesbee, Lauren Sulzer and husband Jake, Erin Unglesbee, Tabor Burkhardt, Becca Burkhardt, Lexi Burkhardt, and Mitchell Burkhardt; and great grandchild Colbie Starlings. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 21, at Bon Secours Retreat and Conference Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
