Joseph H. Harrison, 81, of Westminster, MD passed away surrounded by his family on August 29, 2014. Born in Hazelton, PA on November 9, 1932, Joe grew up in Hazelton and at the age of 19 left for General Motors Institute in Flint, MI where he met his wife of 59 years, Sheila Burdgick. After Joe graduated from GMI with a degree in engineering, Joe and Sheila moved around the United States while Joe furthered his career with General Motors. In 1972, Joe landed at the GM plant on Broening Highway in Baltimore where he stayed until he retired from GM in 1992. In Baltimore, Joe and Sheila found a home where they had many friends, became Chesapeake Bay boaters, and belonged to the Baltimore Yacht Club. After many years as boaters, Joe and Sheila grew restless, sold the boat, and purchased a motor home. They traveled the United States and visited each of the 50 states. During this time, they moved to Leesburg, FL for ten years. Then in 2010, they moved back to Maryland and settled in Westminster. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Sheila; his children and their spouses, Greg and Karen Harrison, Kathy and Ken Mack, and Scott and Jessica Harrison; his grandchildren and their spouses, Jason and Jenna Harrison, Ashley and Scott Taylor, Christine and Josh Arrington, Kenny and Kelly Mack, Derek and Aimee Harrison, Nick Harrison, Joey Mack, and Alex Harrison; and his great-grandchildren, Kierra Harrison, Lilly Taylor, Houston Harrison, Addie Harrison, and Jayda Harrison. A private commemorative dinner was held with the immediate family following Joe's passing. Joe wished to be cremated and have his ashes scattered. These arrangements will be made in the next week or so. Please contact a family member for details if you wish to participate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Seasons Hospice Foundation, 6400 Shafer Ct, Suite 700, Rosemont, IL 60018 or to the National Stroke Organization through to support prevention and treatment research.
