Joseph N. Starkey IV, 63, of Mount Airy, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at Carroll Hospital Center.

He was the husband of Victoria Musil Starkey, his wife of 34 years.

He grew up in Barnesville and graduated from Poolesville High School. He was a State Trooper for 25 years, an Army veteran and a skilled carpenter.

He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed attending car shows with his antique car. He was known for his sense of humor and jokes.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Jeffrey R. Starkey, Rebecca and husband Jesse Ewen, and Christina Starkey, all of Mount Airy; sisters Ellen and husband Andy Poteat, Joyce and husband David Williams, and Linda Frazier; brother David and wife Wendy Starkey; sister-in-law Nancy Starkey; and a grandson, Andrew.

He was predeceased family members Jane Merie Day, and George and Gregory Starkey.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 and 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave, Westminster, MD 21157.
