Joy Lynn Upton Hands, 75, of Mount Airy, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.

Born Dec. 25, 1938, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Doris Pauline Weidman Smith, of Mount Airy, and the late Edwin Upton. She was the wife of Kenneth Hands, who died May 2, 2013.

She was a nurse at Carroll County General Hospital in Westminster. She was a member of Mount Airy Full Gospel Church in Mount Airy. She enjoyed baking and crafts.

Surviving are children Deborah and Charles Lusco, of York, Pa., and David and Amy Hands, of Westminster; a brother, Fred Nilsen, of Pasadena; grandchildren Madison and Megan Hands, Joy Rose and Jason Lusco; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Allen Hands; and a sibling, Nils Nilsen.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Airy Full Gospel Church, 13949 Penn Shop Road, Mount Airy, with the Rev. Thomas Gue officiating. Graveside interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Druid Ridge Cemetery in Pikesville.
