Julia Teresa Rosenwald of Chestertown, MD died Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the home of her sister-in-law in Montgomery Village, MD. She was 82. Julia was born in Baltimore, MD on October 20, 1931, the daughter of the late Charles Robert and Mary Angela (Dilley) Arnold. She graduated from St.Joseph's High School in Emmitsburg in 1949 and from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland in 1953 with a B.A. in History. She also earned a degree from Western Maryland College in Library Sciences. She married Albert John (Jack) Rosenwald on June 20, 1953 who predeceased her on January 26, 2012. She taught in the Frederick County, MD school system for over 30 years, completing her career as the librarian at Waverley Elementary School. After retiring to Chestertown, she volunteered with the Chester River Hospital Center and the Upper Shore Mental Health Center. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Women's Literary Club of Chestertown, the Women's League of Washington College and Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Key Women Educators. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and gathering with friends in the Chester River book club. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John M. Rosenwald and her brother, George B. Arnold. She is survived by three sons, James T. Rosenwald and wife Anne of Frederick, MD; Jeffrey A. Rosenwald and wife Tammy of Frederick, MD; Joseph M. Rosenwald and wife Sophany of Derwood, MD; and daughter Julie A. Armistead and husband Will of Morgantown, WV; eight grandchildren, Justin and Evan Rosenwald, Laura Rosenwald, Suzette, Celine and Sylvie Rosenwald, Blair and Chas Armistead; and two great grandchildren, Brayden and Aubree Rosenwald. Also surviving are two sisters, Helen Gorman of Taneytown, MD and Mary Ann Cobb of Bethesda MD and brother Joseph Arnold and wife Nola of Salisbury, MD; sister-in-law Elizabeth C. Arnold of Montgomery Village, MD who was caring for her at the time of her death; and daughter-in-law Frances A. Rosenwald. She will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday October 25, 2014 at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 508 High Street, Chestertown, MD. A visitation will be held Friday, October 24 from 6-8pm at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road in Chestertown. She will be laid to rest at Mount St. Mary's University Cemetery in Emmitsburg, MD at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Julia's memory to the Kent County Public Library, 408 High St, Chestertown MD or Hospice of Queen Anne's, 255 Comet Dr, Centreville MD.
