Karen Jean Sirko, age 57, of Sykesville, MD passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016, at home with her family. Born October 8, 1958, in Potsdam, NY she was the daughter of Veronica Baxter Bisnett. She was the loving wife of Theodore J. "Ted" Sirko of Sykesville. Karen worked at Oklahoma Road Middle School in Eldersburg for many years, first as a teaching assistant and then as an office secretary. She loved cooking, baking, gardening and decorating her home. She enjoyed taking wine tours and staying at bed and breakfasts. Karen was a big fan of the Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Steelers and University of Maryland Basketball teams. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, the "Bunkettes" and her companion dog, "Bella". Surviving in addition to her mother and husband are her son and his companion, Alexander F. Sirko and Cara Dutton of Glenville, PA; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine J. and Mark Lortz of Joppa, MD; brothers Chester Bisnett of Potsdam, NY and Michael Bisnett of Mt. Pleasant, SC; sisters, Colleen Wallace of Cape Coral, FL, Barbara Holden of Colton, NY and Betsy Henry of Potsdam, NY, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Theodore and Almeda Sirko of Gettysburg, PA. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 2 to 4pm at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Avenue, 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851 or at www.themmrf.org/donate-to-mmrf.
