Kathleen N. Blum, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Genesis Healthcare in Gettysburg, with her family by her side. She lived in Westminster MD until 2011 when she came to reside at the Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville PA. Born November 30, 1927 in Harney MD, she was the daughter of the late Clare W. and Alverta (Rose) Null. Kathleen was a graduate of Taneytown HS in MD. Her first job was at Read's Drug Store in Westminster. She worked at English-American Tailoring, formerly Grief Bros, for 30 years. She was a member of St John's Lutheran Church, Westminster. As a teenager, she learned to play the Hawaiian steel guitar and briefly played with a group on a radio program in Hanover PA. Kathleen enjoyed taking bus trips and traveled to many places. She was an Elvis fan so most memorable was a trip to Graceland in 1990 with her daughters and her granddaughter. She loved to read romance and mystery novels and loved watching her soap operas. She also had an appreciation for beautiful butterflies and Hawaiian music. She was known for her baking, especially her red velvet cake, fastnachts, and rhubarb custard pie. Surviving are three children, Judy Freidhof of Timonium MD, Carol Widerman of Gettysburg PA, and John Blum of Pine Knoll Shores NC; four grandchildren, Laurie Stover of Gettysburg, Brock Widerman of Gettysburg, Jonathan Blum of Fairfield PA, and Jesse Blum of Hampstead MD; and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister Shirley Schildt of Tampa FL and cousin Jean Japzon of Hagerstown MD. She was preceded in death by infant daughter Joan Marie Blum. A celebration of life service for Kathleen will be held at a date to be determined by the family.
