Kathryn Louise "Kitty" Fairfield, of Marriottsville, MD, died on January 30, 2015 at Encore at Turf Valley Assisted Living community in Ellicott City, MD. She was born on November 16, 1932, to Agnes and Louis Carey on their farm at Cedar Township in rural Churdan, Iowa and attended Iowa State Teachers College, now University of Northern Iowa. She earned her Master's Degree from Johns Hopkins University. She was a dedicated teacher, beginning her teaching career in Iowa and then in Maryland public schools for 38 years before her retirement. She loved, and always reminisced about, her many years teaching. On February 19, 1955, Kathryn married Dale Fairfield in Adair, Iowa. They celebrated 34 years together before his death in 1989. Kitty was a long-time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Eldersburg where she had previously served as lector, Eucharistic minister and was a member of the Parish Council. She also was involved in small Christian community. She loved to play board and card games and enjoyed keeping up on current events; however, her greatest pride and joy was her family. Kitty is survived by her children: Kirk (Joyce) Fairfield of Towson, MD; Ann Stallard of Marriottsville, MD; Mary (Joe) Trentacosta of California, MD; Joan (Mark) Flister of Eldersburg, MD; Joseph Fairfield of Mount Laurel, NJ; her grandchildren Dale, Kayla and Meagan Fairfield; Shannon Stevens and Carly Stallard; Ryan (Megan) Arnold, Chad Arnold and Sophia Trentacosta; Sarah, Angela and Daniel Flister; great grandson Jackson Arnold, sisters Dorothy J. Gaffney of Fulton NY, Fran (Joseph) Millard of Waukee, IA and brothers Jerome (Sharon) Carey of Churdan, IA, Larry (Jacqueline) Carey of Sigourney, IA and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Donna Hunt, Sister Carita Carey, F.S.P.A., Margaret "Peg Jeffers and Dolores "Dee" Kaiser and beloved nephews Patrick Carey and Jay Kaiser. The Family will receive friends at Haight Funeral Home located at 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg, MD 21784 on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Kitty's memory to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047.
