Larry Edward Brown, 73, of Taneytown, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at home.

Born June 22, 1940, he was the son of the late Carl E. Brown and Mary Evelyn Hoffman Brown. He was the husband of Diane Schmaldinst Brown.

A 1958 Frederick High School graduate, he graduated from Western Maryland College and subsequently served in the West Virginia Air National Guard from 1963 to 1969 as a staff sergeant. He was a social worker with the state of Maryland for 30 years, having graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with his master's in social work.

He cared for foster children. After his retirement, he worked for Catoctin Mountain Growers as a driver, and later as a driver for The Arc Carroll County.

He was a fan of NASCAR and enjoyed working on cars at his home garage. He liked camping with his family, going to auctions and spending time with his dogs Rocky and Opie, as well as his "granddog" Celia.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Laura Ellen Dulany and husband Anand Sivaramakrishnan, and Matthew Brown, all of Baltimore, Linda Brown, of New York, N.Y., Tim Brown and wife Samantha, and Ross Brown, all of Taneytown; grandchildren Jocelyn Dulany, of Baltimore, and Braden and Mason Brown, both of Taneytown; a sister, Romaine Eyler, of Westminster; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 515 S. Market St., Frederick. If attending, assemble at the FSK Chapel at Mount Olivet by 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Helping Up Mission, 1029 E. Baltimore St., Baltimore, MD 21202, an organization that was instrumental in saving son Matthew's life; or to Wounded Warriors Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256, to honor son Tim's service in the Marine Corps.
