Larry Philip Abernathy, 71, of Hampstead, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Golden Living Center in Westminster.

Born Sept. 7, 1942, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Maxey and Hilda Latleif Abernathy. He was the husband of Denise Benner Abernathy, his wife of 36 years.

Prior to retirement, he had been a mail clerk at the Social Security Administration. He enjoyed watching Orioles and Ravens games on television and enjoyed dining out at various restaurants.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his brother Donald Irby Abernathy and wife Betty Jane, of Hampstead; sisters-in-law Debbie Johnson and husband Chuck, of Catonsville, Diane Reuwer, of Arbutus, Jane Bonczewski and husband Michael, of Parkton; brother-in-law Kevin Benner, of Ellicott City; niece Deborah Lynn Fiackos and husband Greg; great-niece Emily Fiackos; great-nephew Andrew Fiackos; aunt Annie Tyler, of Montgomery County; uncle Floyd Latleif, of Damascus; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main Street, Hampstead. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Art Monroe officiating. Interment will be in Hampstead Cemetery.
