Laurena Anne "Laurie" Friedel, 50, of Westminster, died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born April 23, 1962, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Raymond Hostetter and Florence Matthews Digman, and stepdaughter of the late Howard Digman. She was the wife of Francis Friedel Jr., her husband of 27 years.

She was an instructional aide at Westminster High School and a member of St. John Catholic Church. She enjoyed her time as a Girl Scout leader, beading, decorating cakes and volunteering with Maryland Troopers Association Lodge 20.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are children Connie Friedel and fiance Philip Gruentzel, and Francis Paul Friedel III, all of Westminster; and siblings and spouses Tamara Richer and husband Randy, and Raymond Hostetter and wife Debbie, all of Edgewater.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

A Mass of Christian burial will held at noon Saturday at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, with the Rev. Jaime Garcia officiating. Interment will be in Meadow Branch Cemetery.
