Lawrence Alton "Larry" McGinnis Jr., 67, of Owings Mills, died Monday, May 26, 2014.

Born Nov. 30, 1946, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Lawrence Alton McGinnis Sr. and Ruth McGinnis-Ensor, and also the late Dorothea McGinnis, who died when he was 3. He was the husband of Brenda Green McGinnis, his wife of 17 years.

He served in the Navy during Vietnam on the USS Samuel B. Roberts (DD-823). He was a carpenter by trade and became a skilled builder over the years. He worked for more than 20 years as the head of building maintenance at Caves Valley Golf Course in Owings Mills before recently retiring.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles, firearms, building projects, scuba diving and the Ravens, among other things.

He was a member of the VFW Post No. 521 in Owings Mills; American Legion Post No. 223 in Sykesville; Bucs Club in Westminster; and Ravens Roost 57 in Owings Mills.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Tiffany McGinnis, of Westminster, and Keith H. Jr. and Michelle Green, of Hanover, Pennsylvania; daughters and sons-in-law Mitzi L. and Tim Jones, of Sykesville, and Tammy E. and Joe Lippy, of Spring Grove, Pennsylvania; brother and sister-in-law David M. and Lois McGinnis, of Westminster; sisters and brothers-in-law Patricia A. McGinnis-Reed and husband Daniel, of Westminster, and Brenda C. and Russell Stewart, of Phenix City, Alabama; and grandchildren Lexi, Madison, Shannon, Jacob, Casondra, Courtney and Bailee.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the National Vietnam Veterans Foundation, 1919 NE 45th St., Suite 223, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33308.
