Lawrence Edward "Smitty" Smith, 72, of Lothian, formerly of Finksburg, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at home.

Born July 21, 1939, in Finksburg, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Virgie Wetzel Smith.

He was a graduate of Westminster High School and worked in the plumbing trade. He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge and an avid dog lover. He enjoyed dancing, country music and watching TV, especially wrestling.

Surviving are siblings June B. Welch, Charles H. Smith II, Catherine I. Wagner and Clarence V. Smith; daughters Vickie Prise, Debbie Gesell and Cheryl Stoner; a son, Lawrence E. Smith Jr.; four granddaughters; a grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, George Smith.

A graveside service and interment will be at held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Finksburg Cemetery on Md. 140 in Finksburg, with the Rev. Wm. Louis Piel officiating.
