Leona Oneida Ward, 89, of New Windsor, died Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Country Care Assisted Living, Westminster, following an extended illness.

Born March 13, 1923, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Mamie Humbert Hiner. Twice married, she was the wife of Wilmer A. Staub, who died in 1975; and of Clarence O. Ward, her husband of 35 years.

She was a 1939 graduate of Westminster High School and was formerly employed with Kessler Shoe Factory of Westminster, retiring in 1982.

She was a member of Wakefield Valley Bible Church. She enjoyed bowling, puzzle books, spending time with her family and her winters in Florida for 40 years.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are sons Wilmer Eugene Staub and wife Mary, of Conway, S.C., and Ronnie Lee Staub and wife Nancy, of New Windsor; stepsons Clarence Ward, of New Windsor, James Ward, of Taneytown, and Robert and John Ward, both of Seattle, Wash.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; sisters Janice Shipley and Iona Sipes, both of Westminster; and a brother, Marlin Hiner, of Taneytown.

She was predeceased by daughters Tania Beacham, who died in 1998, and infant, Leona Staub; a grandson, Wilmer Staub; and brothers William and Roland Hiner.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Fred Horner, retired pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
