Leonardo John Testa, 94, of Westminster, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017 at his home. Born August 8, 1923 in Vineland, NJ, he was the son of the late Leonardo and Margaret Dawson Testa. He was the husband of Rae Gilchrist Testa to whom he was married for 69 years. Leonardo earned his B.A. and an M.A. from American University and an M.A. from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia. He served as a minister for the Presbyterian Church for 20 years. At that time, he went to work for the federal Head Start Program and supervised the efforts of field personnel for 17 years. Leonardo was concerned with social justice throughout his life. When younger, he participated actively, joining the 1964 March on Washington. Later in life, when his health declined, he remained involved and continued to support these causes. In particular, he supported the Southern Poverty Law Center. He was also a member of the Long Beach Island Singers, a community choir in New Jersey. He & his wife traveled extensively throughout the U.S., England, Italy and Scotland. When he could no longer physically travel, one of his greatest blessings was to see places on TV and comment, "We've been there". Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children: Anne Marie (Gerald) Francis of Philadelphia PA, John Robert (Margaret) of Lewisburg PA, and daughter-in-law Deborah Testa of Westminster; grandchildren: Matthew D. Strouts, Maraena L, Testa, Seana M. Testa and Leo J. Testa. He is also survived by his siblings: Christina T. Hurst, Joanne T. (Lemuel) Higinbotham, and Marion T. Dixon; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Matthew McCord Testa, and brothers-in-law William Hurst and Gray Dixon. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until the start of Memorial Services at 3:00 p.m. Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. Officiating will be Pastor Matthew Glasgow. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Union Theological Seminary, 3401 Brook Road, Richmond, VA 23227 or Southern Poverty Law Center, 400 Washington Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36104. Online condolences may be sent to www.prittsfuneralhome.com.
