Leroy Ratcliffe "Lee" Hillary, 82, of Union Bridge, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Carroll Hospital Center, following a brief illness.

Born Aug. 10, 1930, in Baltimore County, he was the son of the late Quinton R. and Hilda Mae Whitmore Hillary. He was the husband of first wife Bettie Lou Hillary, who died in 1997; and second wife Joanne Rowe Hillary, his wife of 11 years.

He was employed with the Baltimore City Fire Department for 39 years, retiring as a captain. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in New Windsor. He enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, crossword puzzles, his dogs and watching old movies. He was also an avid reader, especially mysteries.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Lois Ann Hillary, and Cynthia G. Walker and husband Tim, all of Biglerville, Pa.; son Wayne L. Hillary and wife Dee Dee, of Dallas, Texas; stepdaughter Crystal Dykhoff and husband Travis, of Union Bridge; grandchildren Shaun Hillary, Shannon Arnold, Jessica Hillary, Christopher Fisher and Dr. Jacquelyn Fisher; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Mae Boroughs.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 200 Main St., New Windsor, with his pastor, the Rev. Helen Armiger, officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park in Eldersburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the music ministry of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 250, New Windsor, MD 21776.
