Lillian Haber Barker, 88, of Catonsville, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at home.
Born March 18, 1924, in Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Esther Marion Sokoler Haber.
She graduated from New York University and Columbia University. She was a librarian at Western Maryland College, Enoch Pratt Library, and the Prince Georges County library system. She designed and implemented the Baltimore County Interlibrary Loan System.
She was a governor of Toastmasters International and a veteran of the United States Navy.
Surviving are children Preston Arthur Barker and wife Vilde Hegland, of Norway, Michael Barker and wife Betsy, of Connecticut, and Alice Cockey Higgs and husband Craig, of Manchester; grandchildren Kate Barker–Froyland, Callie Barker, Jennifer Cockey Devers, Alicia Cockey Howell, and David Cockey; great-grandchildren Madison, Delaney, Lacey, Molly, and Quinn Devers; and a brother, Jerome Haber, of Delray, Fla.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, where a funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. A private cremation will be held at All Faiths Crematory and Chapel in Manchester.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at Charlestown Retirement Community, 715 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville. Interment, with military honors, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 29, at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Road, Owings Mills.
