Lillian May Runkles, 94, of Mount Airy, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at the home she shared with her daughter, after an illness of several months.

Born Aug. 18, 1918 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late George and Lillian May Kaufman Simmont. She was the wife of Raymond Ray Runkles, who died in 1972.

She attended Calvary Baptist Church, Westminster. She enjoyed cooking, was an avid reader, especially her Bible, and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving are daughters Betty Ann Wadel, of Westminster, Shirley Louise Runkles, with whom she resided, and Carolyn Lee Neal, of New Market; sons Roger Ray Runkles and wife Charlene, of Middletown, Robert Lee Runkles and wife Stephanie, of Dickerson, and David Lee Runkles and wife Allison, of Leesburg, Va.; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

She was predeceased by a son, Bernard Stanley Runkles; sisters and brothers; and sons-in-law Mark Wadel and David Neal.

A funeral service was held Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home in Libertytown. Interment was in Prospect Cemetery in Mount Airy.
