Lisa Spence, 51, of New Windsor, died Monday, April 1, 2013, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House.

Born on August 23, 1961, in Landstuhl, Germany, she was the daughter of Liesel Kulick, of Frederick, and the late Joseph Kulick. She was the wife of William Spence, her husband of 29 years.

She was a graduate of McDaniel College and Tai Sophia Institute, where she earned a Master of Acupuncture degree. She practiced both at the Center for Healing Arts in Westminster and at the Women's Place at Carroll Hospital Center. At the Women's Place she founded the community acupuncture program, which provides therapy to many who could not otherwise afford it. She was also chief horticulturist at Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo in Thurmont.

An avid gardener, she had formerly enjoyed teaching in the Agricultural Extension's Master Gardener program.

Surviving in addition to her mother and husband, are daughters Hanna Spence, of New Windsor, and Emma Spence, of Chestertown; and sister and brother-in-law Eva and Jeff Spilker, of Severna Park.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. April 20 at McDaniel College, McDaniel Lounge, 2 College Hill, Westminster.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to The Dove House Inpatient Hospice, c/o Carroll Hospital Center Foundation, attn: Jenny Gambino, 200 Memorial Ave., Westminster, MD 21157; or to the Tevis Center for Wellness, c/o Carroll Hospital Center Foundation, attn: Ellen Finnerty Myers, 200 Memorial Ave., Westminster, MD 21157,which will provide new housing for community acupuncture in Westminster when it opens in September 2014.
