Louise Stagg Spittel, 86, of Sykesville Fairhaven Retirement Community, formerly a lifelong resident of Westminster, died Friday evening, May 9, 2014, at Fairhaven.

Born Aug. 31, 1927, in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Marie Tilghman Stagg. She was the wife of George L. Spittel, her husband of 55 years, who died in 2004.

She was retired as a media specialist from the Carroll County Public School System, primarily working at the East End Elementary School for many years. She often was spotted throughout the county in her car with the license plate "MEDIA 1."

She was a member of the Westminster Women's Club and St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Westminster. For many years she and her husband lived on Willis Street, and later moved to Fitzhugh Avenue in Westminster, before retiring to Fairhaven. She was well known for her sense of fashion and interior decorating, and also for hosting candlelight dinner parties.

Surviving are grandsons Truman and Grayson Spittel, and Justin Houghton-Boring.

She was predeceased by sons Paul M. and Mark M. Spitell.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of a funeral service, 11 a.m. Tuesday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, with the Rev. Marty Kuchma officiating. Interment will follow in the Westminster Cemetery.
