Lu Ann Harris Funk, 60, of Hampstead, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

Born May 14, 1953, in Hanover, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Sylvia and George Billy Harris.

She was a 1971 graduate of North Carroll High School. She was stationed in Japan while serving in the Army and was a Russian linguist and interpreter, receiving numerous commendations and awards. Her post-military career included positions in credit management, and she later attended culinary school, earning her degree and working in many areas of the food service industry.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and following sports.

Surviving are sisters Dottie Rossow and husband Wally, of Englewood, Fla., and Vicky Shaffer and husband Robert, of Hampstead; nieces and nephews Rich Yelton, of Valrico, Fla., and Kelly Mountcastle and Jennifer Lettau, both of Hampstead; a step-nephew, Nick Shaffer, of Westminster; and eight grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A celebration of life will planned for a later date.
