Major Alfred Cook, 68, of Westminster, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House.

Born April 17, 1945, in Westminster, he was the son of the late Major Washington Cook and Catherine Corrine Morse Cook Allen. He was the husband of Janice Joy Davis Cook, who died in 2008.

He was a graduate of the Robert Moton School. He worked as a correctional officer for Carroll County and retired from Safeway as a maintenance man. He was a member of Crosswind Church in Westminster.

Surviving are children Cricket Cook, of New Windsor, and Alfred Tyrone Cook, of Randallstown; brothers and sisters Thomas and Benjamin Cook, of Sykesville, Paula Cook and Tony Weedon, of Laurel, Roselle Dorsey, of Union Bridge, Dolores Anderson Blackman, of Delaware, Darlene Blackman and Douglas Cook, of Richmond, Va., and Margie Brightful, Cynthia Cook and Nathaniel Allen, of Westminster; stepbrothers and stepsisters Sheila McDaniel, of Mission Viejo, Calif., Edna Roper, of Westminster, Nicholas Allen Jr., of New Windsor, and Maria Allen, of Randallstown; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, James Cook.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service 1 p.m. Thursday at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, chapel entrance, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, with his pastor, the Rev. David Sulcer, officiating. Interment will be private.
