Retired Major John W Hood of Stephens City, VA, passed away on May 30, 2015, surrounded by his wife, Milly Hood, their seven children and their families. Born on December 19, 1936 in Westminster MD, he lived in Union Bridge as a child and graduated from Elmer Wolfe High School with the class of 1955. He was a two tour Vietnam War veteran and retired railroader. John was devoted to his family, his faith and his music. He was preceded in death by his father, Crawmer Hood, his mother, Edith Jackson Hood Germroth, and his brother, Robert Hood. He leaves behind his wife, Milly Hood, his son Andy Hood and wife Bev of Detour, daughters Deb Medcalf and husband Todd Medcalf of Stephens City, VA, Laura Seitler and husband Brad of Littlestown, PA, Beth Hood of Winchester, VA, step sons Bobby Shives and wife Kim of Harpers Ferry, WV, Brad Shives and wife Tammy of Smithsburg, MD, step daughter, Karen Shives of Stephens City, VA, his brother Donald Hood and wife Janet of Sykeville, MD and sister Carol Baker and husband Robert of Sharpsburg, MD. In addition, he leaves behind 21 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. As his final act of helping to educate others, John wished to have his body donated to science. The family will receive friends on Friday June 5, 2015 from 1 - 3 pm at Macedonia United Methodist Church in Stephens City, VA with a memorial service immediately following at 3pm. There will be a time of reflection and fellowship after the service. Memorial contributions can be made to CCAP (Congregational Community Action Project) 112 South Kent St Winchester, VA 22601.
